Józsi’s Wine Country Cottage With A Style All Its Own

This charming country cottage in bucolic Fejér County, Hungary, now belongs to Catherine Dickens Gore, who’s made it into a bed & breakfast open year-round at 40,000 forints per night (currently $144 / €133 / £95). It’s in the heart of their wine country and guests certainly enjoy the setting; the unique home is flanked by vineyards on the sides, with grape vines climbing a trellis offering shade in the outdoor sitting area, a wine barrel for the shower.

The former wine cellar has been converted to a cozy kitchen / dining room complete with a fireplace. The bedroom is upstairs by way of a ladder and trapdoor or exterior steps. Over a lilac hedge is a small road frequented during the day by local farmers on foot, tractors and horse carts. The peaceful rural setting means there’s nothing but the stars and the sounds of nature during the night.
