It’s marketed as a luxury treehouse, but – it’s really a yurt! On stilts. We’re talking about the Birdhouse, a glamping-type rental in Somerset, England, and from the outside it does make a very nice looking forest cabin, dressed in long cedar planks and standing tall on stilts made from rough tree trunks. The interior, though – you were expecting maybe a lot of natural wood, all warm and dark and cozy, with a big fireplace? No, it’s all bare white walls and open-plan design, and since the Birdhouse nests on the grounds of a place called the Yurt Retreat, we’re willing to bet that the inspiration was a little more Genghis Khan than Frank Lloyd Wright. The artistically weathered kitchen cabinets enclose top-of-the-line stainless steel German appliances, the bed’s handmade, and there’s a rain head shower in the enclosed bathroom, so by any name this is definitely a luxury stay. It’s also all booked up for the next several months, but you can keep checking availability here.
