A 40-foot farmhouse from the Texas Hill Country

The Vintage Retreat is the first model from Hill Country Tiny Houses, which is operated by the Snyder family of Kerrville, Texas. It is Texas huge, with a 40-foot trailer and two steel slide-outs giving 384 square feet of floor area. Finished in a pleasant country-modern style, it features a private master bedroom and a full bathroom on the ground floor, as well as a 70-square-foot sleeping loft. The house goes for $98,000, including all appliances, and there’s a 10% discount if you order before 2018.

In case all that interior space isn’t enough, there are also a couple of fold-down decks.

Walls are a combination of barn wood and ship-lap.

A pair of glass French doors lights up the living room.

The cherry wood table underneath the counter rolls out to become a mobile island with a butcher-block top.

A white farmhouse sink is the focal point of the kitchen.

The queen bed is a Murphy model that includes a fold-out desk.

The bathroom includes a 48-inch antique vanity, a full-size jetted tub, and separate washer and dryer units.

The Snyders have been in the conventional home building business for about 15 years, with mother Shari doing designs and marketing and father Todd handling the construction. They got started on tinys after building one for themselves. Now everybody’s involved – two daughters telecommute from college to help out with accounting and marketing while a son works on the builds. Besides the Vintage Retreat, they sell a 399-square-foot park model and a single-occupancy 33-footer. They’re also setting up a tiny house village near Kerrville. Called the Oasis, it will emphasize spiritual and physical wellbeing as well as tiny living; it’s scheduled to open in 2018.
